After completing the design of this exciting project, we’ve now moved into the construction phase, and we couldn’t be more excited to share the progress with you. This is where the design starts to come to life. In this update, our Team Leader, John, takes us through the project on site, sharing some of the work that has been completed so far and giving you a look behind the scenes of this incredible riverside transformation.
Design to demolition
The extensive demolition stage is now nearing completion, with much of our focus so far being on establishing the correct levels and preparing the site for the next stages of construction.
From removing the old, failing retaining walls through to the structural earthworks, there has been a significant amount of preparation required before we can begin introducing the finer design elements.
Concrete sleeper retaining walls have now been installed, providing the reliability and flexibility needed to establish the new levels across the site while creating a strong foundation for the landscape to come.
Working on such a steep site has certainly presented its challenges. From navigating the sloping terrain to carefully dismantling the existing structure over the pool, every stage has required considered planning and precision.
A key priority throughout construction has been protecting the existing pool. Rather than replacing it, we’ve worked carefully around the existing structure and foundations, allowing us to retain the pool while completely reimagining the surrounding landscape.

Adapting when the unexpected happens
As is often the case with construction, not everything beneath the surface is always exactly as expected.
Once works were underway, we uncovered an additional buried sewer manhole that wasn’t identified on the available plans. Rather than allowing this unexpected discovery to compromise the design, we saw an opportunity to rethink the surrounding area.
A last-minute design adjustment allowed us to relocate the pool equipment and incorporate the existing infrastructure into a revised solution for retaining and managing the bank.
It’s a great example of why having an experienced team involved throughout the entire design and construction process is so important. Being able to respond to what the site presents, while still protecting the overall vision, is a big part of delivering a successful project.

There’s more to come
With the groundwork now well underway, we’re getting closer to seeing the design elements that make this project so special begin to take shape.
We’re looking forward to introducing the new linen travertine paving around the pool, with carefully considered stepping pads and brick elements creating a beautiful transition between the new landscape and the existing areas of the home.
The pool area will also be complemented by a 6 x 4m Pergolux louvred pergola, creating a dedicated space for relaxing and entertaining while adding another layer of functionality to the outdoor living area.
Combined with the new planting, retaining structures and considered connections throughout the space, these elements will begin to transform what was once a tired and disconnected pool area into the relaxed, refined outdoor retreat our clients envisioned.
There’s still plenty to come, and we’re excited to keep taking you along for the journey.
Stay tuned for the next update as we move beyond the structural works and begin bringing the finer design details to life.
