Gardens slip. Life gets busy. Elliot knows it. During COVID, his front garden in Paddington ran wild. Weeds took over. Plants outgrew their space. Maintenance stopped. This visit was the pre start walk through. The goal was simple. Reset the garden and plan a space that works for a young family.

The vision is a garden that feels playful and easy to manage. Elliot wants fewer chores and more places for Lukie to explore. We plan to remove sections of overgrown rosemary and replace them with Mystic Spires. The purple colour will lift the space and support pollinators. In a corner pot, we will add a native gardenia to soften the boundary and create privacy from neighbours.

Several plants have outgrown the garden. Three large Dions will be removed and replaced with two dwarf citrus trees and lush underplanting that suits the scale of the space. An old palm stump will be stump ground to open up the middle section. Some Crassula’s will come out to make room for a cowboy cactus. Elliot keeps his herbs and chillies. Three varieties. Home grown.

The front section needs structure and flow. We plan to clear weeds and space Green Miss Muffet’s so they can fill out properly. The pathway will be lined with Liriope Emerald Cascades to add a dense green edge. A new peekaboo section will run along the path with creeping herbs. It will give Lukie space to play and help turn this garden into a place the family actually uses.

Stick around for part two – where all the magic happens!
