Corey Oates // Part 1

Brooke’s Blooms recently took on an exciting project in the picturesque Samford Valley, teaming up with none other than Broncos legend and Queensland rugby league superstar Corey Oates for a major garden clean-up.

Corey welcomed the team to his stunning property, ready to rejuvenate the landscape and bring new life to his gardens. “I’ve heard about you guys for years now,” Corey said, explaining how he discovered the Brooke’s Blooms team. “Darius and Caleb Boyd have used you, and Josh Dunkley’s recent project, and the KISS 97.3 charity project really caught my eye. I saw that and thought—yep, I need that. I need help. So I thought I’d ring in the pros.”

The Brooke’s Blooms crew wasted no time diving into the task. The focus for the first day was on the Heliconia garden—a lush, tropical feature that had become overgrown over time. By thinning out and cutting back the old stems, the team aimed to improve aeration and promote healthy regrowth. “Heliconias grow from rhizomes,” explained the team. “When we take out the older stems and add a slow-release fertiliser, the new shoots that come through are the ones that will flower. Once they bloom this spring, it’s going to completely transform the look of the property.”

The result will be a refreshed, vibrant garden that enhances the natural beauty of the Samford Valley, giving Corey a much more open and scenic outlook.

Laughing as he surveyed the work ahead, Corey joked, “So what I’ve tried to do in five years, you’re going to do in three days?” The reply came quickly: “Two.”

With the Brooke’s Blooms team on the job, it’s safe to say this transformation is set to be a quick and spectacular one.

Stay tuned for the finished reveal—this Samford Valley clean-up is shaping up to be something special.
